In 2001, Jeffery Williams was working in San Antonio, TX, while his wife, Janie was a stay at home mom. To supplement their income, she placed an ad to begin watching children within her own community. Initially, she transported two children to and from school and would assist them with their homework after school. This allowed their parents to get to work on time. After watching those two, another parent asked if she would also take their children to school. Other parents took notice and began to ask about transportation and care for their children. Janie agreed to do the same for some other working parents and the vision to transport children was birthed.
The following year, they purchased a twelve passenger van to accommodate the increased demand. Jeffery left his full time job and began assisting his wife. He took over driving duties and the business has continued to thrive and grow. During a typical day, they make over a dozen trips, picking up and safely delivering children to and from school. For parents who cannot get to their children right away, they provide care, snacks, tutorials and homework assistance. When homework is completed, they get to enjoy additional recreational activities.
With the high demand for service, School Time has many requests from parents who cannot afford their services, but they transport them regardless of their ability to pay. This has resulted in a huge burden on them both professionally and personally. To offset these costs, they have obtained a 501 C 3 to increase the capacity to service children and their parents within at-risk communities. Children who would otherwise not have a safe way to get to and from school rely on STTCCI. Parents consider the service a relief that allows those who work to do so without concern for their children and a way for the children they serve to have a safe way to and from school.
The purpose of School Time Transportation and Child Care, Inc. is to assist parents living in neighborhoods where transportation to and from school is limited, nonexistent or where parental transportation is unaffordable. The lack of available transportation causes children to walk to and from school unsupervised and many become prey to a number of maladies; including predators, gang-related activities, bullying and pedestrian accidents. Some of the children are as young as 4 or 5 years old and must walk alone near busy intersections. Our children need the protection and safety to do simple things like traveling to and from school, the park or other social activities. This is why we include transport in our services.
